Where do you live?
The lovely little city of St Albans in Hertfordshire.
When did you start your career in finance? How did you get into it?
My career began in 2012, when I graduated from Lancaster University with a degree in Business Studies. I fell into financial planning with a role as an office administrator/trainee IFA for a small IFA business down in Surrey. It was supposed to be a gap fill whilst finding a “proper” job, but I discovered what financial planning was, started my exams and I’ve never looked back!
What would be your biggest piece of advice to someone coming into the financial planning profession?
Nothing worth having comes easy! It is hard work and that’s not just the exams, but it is an incredibly rewarding career.
How would you define your personal mission?
“Work hard and be nice to people.”
How would you define your personal vision?
To play a part in the change of an industry into a profession, where we all get along and respect each other and our views.
I also dream of a day when someone asks me about my job, and I say I’m a Paraplanner or a Financial Planner, and they know exactly what it is and don’t then start talking about past scandals.
How would you define your personal values?
Treat others as you would like to be treated yourself. Be authentic, kind and passionate.
What is your greatest achievement outside of work?
I think it would have to be when I moved to Edinburgh (from London) a couple of years ago. I’d never been to Edinburgh before, I didn’t know anyone, and I rented a flat I’d never even viewed. I was so far out of my comfort zone, but it was one of the best things I’ve ever done.
What is the greatest book you have ever read that helped you in your career?
Paulo Coelho’s “The Alchemist”. It’s a novel/fable/fantasy about following your dreams.
What is your most valuable asset of being a NextGen Planners member?
Community! There is always someone that is willing to give you their time, whether this be career advice, exams tips or something else. I’ve met so many great people in the profession through NextGen.

This is a hard question; I have SO many favourites! I’m going for Gabby Houseman – a great big smile and always willing to lend a hand.
